I was sick of having no time at home with my husband and kids. So I quit my job and started my very own successful business. The best thing I could have ever done. Here is my story.

My name is Rebecca Wilson and like all other moms out there, all I want is to work from home so that I can have more time with my children. For twelve years I worked as a pastry chef for a large restaurant putting in long hours and dealing with inflexible scheduling and late nights. After the birth of my second son, Noah, I finally decided enough was enough and I would no longer sit by and miss out in raising my children. It was time for a change. So, I handed in my resignation and opened my own home based business pastry services called ‘The Pastry Princess’. The best thing I could have done.

Of course when you start your own work at home business there are risks. I was concerned that I wouldn’t have a steady income, or that my business might not take off like I had anticipated. Well, these worries turned out to be needless. I had a few contacts in my town that ordered cakes from me for birthdays and first communions, and then just by word of mouth my business took off. I was making a half a dozen cakes a week and various batches of pastries that clients would come pick up from my home.

My business was very steady and had me earning an excellent $700 a week for only about 20 hours of work. But I knew that I was not exploiting The Pastry Princess’ full potential. Thus I decided to open up a web page where people all across the county could place an order with the click of their mouse. I was getting so many orders that I bought a van and hired a delivery boy.

I now, also have several advertising banners on my company website. I was approached by a local company who specialize in party supplies that wanted to advertize on my site. Since it is not competition for me I said sure, and they now pay me $200 a month just to have the banner and a link to their site on my page. This is very easy money for me and am even thinking about putting in an additional advertiser to further supplement my income.

I have never been happier! I do what I love and best of all is that I am at home. My eldest son, Jason who is 4, loves to help me in the kitchen, I give him tasks such as mixing batters and sampling finished products! It is a great bonding experience for us and never feels like work. I look forward to when Noah is old enough to have some baking fun too! I honestly can’t imagine my life any other way!

I never thought that my being thrifty would really amount to anything more than a few dollars saved and constant eye rolling from my family. In fact years ago my kids would have told you that I am the cheapest person they know and that my constant flea bargain shopping and my Saturday morning garage sale routine is downright embarrassing. But would you believe it that it is these skills that have paved way for a job I can do right at home?! Now I am making more money than ever before by selling these bargain items on eBay.

The idea first came to me by way of my son in law, Brian. We were all sitting around the table one Saturday laughing about that day’s scoop and he casually mentioned that the item could probably make me double what I had paid for it on eBay. It was a vintage lamp that my house had no use for, but I couldn’t resist buying it based on the price. So I decided to give it a try. Brian set me up with an account on eBay and we posted the item for a day long auction. I got about $40 for the vintage lamp based on my detailed description of it, and had actually only paid $5 for it! That was only the beginning for me. Seeing the potential for moneymaking I then started to bargain hunt with even more vigour. My weekends would be spent purchasing items taking pictures of them and posting them on eBay.

It didn’t take long until I was making an easy couple hundred dollars extra each and every week. I wanted to quit my job, but knew I needed another way of finding cheap items, that wasn’t so time consuming. So I started talking with different wholesalers. I settled for a couple local ones and then a few international as well. I quit my job and I now spend my days buying in bulk and posting these items on eBay. This saves me time and money and has restored my weekend garage sales once again to a leisure activity. And best of all; now my family never calls my thriftiness ‘cheap’. They now call it savvy!!

My name is Chris McLeod and I run a lucrative website that provides detailed information on accounting and related finances. I am an accountant by trade but about 6 years ago my firm was downsizing and unfortunately I didn’t make the cut. At the time it seemed like the end of the world, but I very quickly realized that my job loss was a blessing in disguise and an opportunity that I needed to take advantage of.

When I was let go from the firm I was given a substantial severance package to compensate and buy me some time while I secured another position. Yet after about a week of light job searching I decided that I didn’t really want to hop back into a corporate job and should first try my hand at my own business. Realistically I probably wouldn’t have another opportunity to build a business while still getting a steady stream of income, so I knew that it was now or never.

I love accounting and knew from experience that internet resources for accurate and consumer friendly accounting information was definitely lacking. This was my market niche: fill the void and provide complete and accurate accounting information that is easy to understand. My wife Linda was very supportive when I told her my plans and she jumped on board to help me with the design side of my website (she is a web designer by trade!).

Within about a month of having posted the site it was gaining in popularity. I knew that traffic volume was the key to making any money off of the site. I signed up with Google AdSense who posted their own ads on my site and would pay me based on the amount of clicks they received. To further encourage people to come to my site, every day I would add new information and I even started a financial blog and Q&A where people could ‘Ask Chris’ any accounting or finance questions they had. By about 3 or 4 months I was making 300 dollars a day in sheer profit and working from home!

I was very quickly gaining a regular clientele base and advertisers started to approach me because they saw the marketing potential based on the sheer volume of traffic that visited my site each and every day. With these new ads on my site I was now making another $50 a day without doing anything extra.

My work day is a lot shorter than it used to be. I no longer have the stress of commuting or having to put on a suit every day. And best of all is that I have more time to spend with my wife Linda, and when we have kids in the not too distant future, I will have a lot more time to spend with them too!

My name is Sophie Wilson and I am a 34 year old mother of 2. I currently own and operate a successful internet based business selling hair accessories online. My business is called Sweet and Sassy Hair Accessories and has been a dream come true, allowing me the flexibility of doing what I love and from the comfort of my own home. Here is how it all started for me.

I used to be a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. It is actually where I met my husband Jeff, who is a pilot for Delta. I was 24 and he was 30 and we met on a 3 day assignment to Asia, which gave us just enough time to get to know each other and fall head over heels. It didn’t take long and we were married and trying to juggle the hectic lifestyle of both of our jobs requiring us to fly all over the world, often with little advanced notice. At first this was fine, but when I got pregnant with our first child (our now 4 year old daughter Greta =) ) I knew that it was time for a career change that allowed me a more constant schedule and the ability to be closer to home.

I stopped flying at almost 8 months into my pregnancy and had a lot of time on my hands while Jeff was away on assignment. For something to do I started to make my own hair bands and clips to use in my short hair. Well as soon I started wearing them I was getting so many complements on them and tons of people asking where I had gotten them from. All this positive feedback and interest in my hair products gave me the inspiration to start selling them. I knew that I didn’t want the hassle or expense of opening up my own store, so selling online through my own website was the natural approach for me. All it took was printing off a few business cards and then with friends wearing my products and then word of mouth I quickly had a steady clientele.

Honestly it was amazing. I was getting my maternity package for the 3 months and supplementing it with accessory sales. In fact things were going so well, that when my mat leave was over I decided that I didn’t even want or need to go back to Delta because I had a good thing going right from the comfort of my own home. Greta would go down for her morning and afternoon naps and I would just spend a few hours at the kitchen table gluing the flowers onto my clips, ribbon onto the hair bands, or whatever funky trend I was feeling in that particular moment. I was easily making the making the money I did as a flight attendant and as the months went on this just continued to grow. Now that Greta is 4 and is in kindergarten I have my days free to dedicate to my business and he husband loves it because when he has days off, we can spend them together. I couldn’t ask for a better life and it is all because of my home business!
