Hundreds of AmeriCorps Grants Awarded Across the US
The 2010 AmeriCorps grant recipients have been named and there are 329 lucky winners who all get a piece of the $234 million donation hoped to improve essential services across the country. This free money is being awarded to applicants whose programs fall into one of the five funding categories outlined by the AmeriCorps program. These include: helping the poor, improving education, encouraging energy efficiency, strengthening access to healthcare and assisting veterans. Free Money for Literacy
Government grants totaling $70,000 went to elementary, middle and high schools in California, New York and Nevada. Government grants, essentially free money, are in support of literacy-based projects in these schools, under the “Reading is the Way Up” program. The grants range from $500 to $1,500 and go to specific applicants who are helping to promote literacy in their communities. The free money goes to support their literacy projects that are creative and engaging, and are deemed would have a tangible and positive effect on student achievement.
